Merchant Services FAQ
It is becoming increasingly important to offer your Customers the most convenient way to pay for Goods and Services. As a Merchant, there are many ways you can benefit from this service too –
- It can improve your cash flow as funds will be lodged directly to your account.
- Card acceptance reduces back office administration and improves your overall efficiency.
- Fees and charges associated with cheque payment ie. insufficient funds etc… are eliminated.
- Card payments offer increased security as less cash is held on the premises.
- In many cases card fees can be more cost effective than cash handling fees.
- Payment is often possible for internet purchases or telephone orders (subject to agreement).
Counter-top terminals
Counter-top terminals are designed to be user friendly and include a large graphic display, backlit keypad and lateral keys (ideal for use in retail Point of Sale environments).
If speed of transaction is important you may want to consider the new generation of broadband terminals.
Portable terminals
Portable terminals allow Customers to enter their PIN without the need to go to the counter – particularly useful in the Leisure and Hospitality Sector.
Bluetooth and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) options are both available.
Virtual Terminals
The Virtual Terminal can be activated on any PC with internet capability. It is a powerful payment terminal and gives you the ability to accept Credit and Debit card
transactions by phone. This can be extremely useful for seasonal businesses (Bed and Breakfasts) or those requiring a portable credit card processing
facility (exhibitions and tradesmen).
Integrated Solutions
This solution is typically installed in medium to large retail stores (typically where there are more than three Points of Sale),
where the card acceptance process is integrated with the Merchant’s own Point of Sale system, rather than using Point of Sale terminals.
An analogue telephone line and power supply. It is recommended that it is a dedicated phone line with nothing else running off it.
The terminal must be connected to the telephone line and power supply at all times as the terminal will process the transactions to the bank in the middle of the night and
to ensure any downloads to the terminal operate correctly.

If you need this capability, we can provide assistance. Please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your requirements.
We provide card acceptance services to thousands of Merchants in Ireland and internationally through a variety of Point of Sale terminals,
call centre and Internet capabilities. ‘Card Not Present’ (CNP) are transactions where the Card and Cardholder are not present at the Point of Sale e.g. Mail, Online or telephone orders.
These types of transactions are becoming increasingly popular with consumers and unfortunately equally appealing to fraudsters. There are additional risks associated with such
transactions as there is no opportunity to physically check the Card or the identity of the Cardholder. The introduction of 3D Secure and CVV2 checking enhances payment security.
Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC)
This facility enables Cardholders from overseas to pay for their purchases in their own currency, allowing the Cardholder to undertake the transaction in their own currency,
providing you with the convenience of being paid in your local currency.
DCC offers your business a further revenue stream through international currency selection fees. This facility is suitable for businesses that receive high volumes of
tourists or overseas Customers.
Multicurrency
This gives you the ability to either take payment and settle in your own currency or consolidate to a single currency of your choice. For very high volumes we offer a
variety of settlement currency options.
There is a MMC (Minimum Monthly Charge) in place (which will be indicated on your application form) and if your combined Debit and Credit fees, excluding terminal rental and VAT,
are less than the MMC communicated to you, the total fee will be rounded to the stated MMC amount.
No, your funds can be allocated to any account.
