What is Tax Free
Tax Free is an application for your AIBMS card terminal. Once a customer uses the terminal to make a payment, it identifies the cardholder’s nationality; and if the card is issued outside the EU, the customer will be offered the choice of receiving a VAT refund form which can be completed in-store.
How does it work
The customer may either drop off their VAT refund form to the Tax Free Worldwide Office at Dublin or Shannon airports, or use a Tax Free Worldwide freepost envelope. Tax Free Worldwide process the claim on behalf of the customers, sending them their VAT refund (less an administration fee) and paying a commission to the merchant where the reclaim form has been processed fully.
Tax Free is available to eligible merchants only. Eligibility is based on the criteria set out by the Revenue Commissioners for the Tax-Free Shopping for Tourist scheme. This criteria currently relates to the type of good sold (the goods must be physical items for personal use, for which VAT is charged, intended for export by the tourist to their home country), and to the nationality of the customers (outside the EU). Tax Free is not available for online purchases.
Please Note: Tax Free is available on selected terminals only, and requires a broadband terminal connection. Please contact us to discuss your terminal with us.
